ts250 - verifying oil pump operation, more troubleshooting on stuck full throttle, installing windshield

Ever since I replaced the oil reservoir I have been meaning to verify that the oil pump is working correctly. Who knows what might have happened while it was pumping air all those years (??).

Turns out this is a pretty simple process. For starters, there are only two oil lines coming off the oil pump, one for the cylinder and one for the crank. The oil lines are clear which is nice. Too bad they are no longer manufactured of course so I have to be careful when workign with these lines.

The bottom line is clearly dark blue like the oil so no worries there. The top one is slightly paler. I disconnected it at the banjo bolt and verified that oil came out. Looks like it is pumping as it should. I then went to adjust the oil pump throttle position since I had replaced the throttle cable. Luckily it was already correct so no work to be done there.

While I was working on the bike I lubricated the drive chain and installed a windshield I used to have on my XS650. I later went for a ride with that windshield in place. It is great on this bike! The bike is very comfortable at 70 with this thing blocking the wind. Its perfect. A much better fit than it ever was on my XS650.

No on to the bad news. I continue to have intermittent full throttle issues. The bike gets stuck at full throttle after you have given if full throttle. My slide guide carb fix did not fix the issue. I can apply full throttle, get the slide stuck, then tap the carb until is comes free.

While it was stuck I started loosening the carb flange bolts and noticed that when I loosened the bolts the slide became unstuck. I did this about 5 times to verify it was not a fluke and I was not causing any vibrations with my wrench. I think what has happened is that the carb body must be slightly warped causing the slide to get bound up. Having the carb flange nuts on there really tight exacerbates the problem. With the nuts all the way loose, the slide goes up and down freely. Too bad it I can't run the bike like that.

I will be ordering a new carb. Hopefully this takes care of the full throttle issue once and for all. It should also help with that fuel leak due to a degradded carb fuel stop.
